Surround Yourself with Easy Homemade Home Décor Ideas
Why pay money if you can repair electrical equipment, household appliances yourself, make easy homemade home décor yourself, and … improve the interior of your house? And at the same time, practically without spending money. Well, maybe just a little — for material and tools.
In a series of my articles, I will give you some practical tips and ideas on how you can decorate your home yourself and thereby not only improve the entire interior but also not spend a lot of money. After all, unnecessary items can always be at hand, from which real masterpieces can be obtained.
The First Idea — A Graphic Inscription in a Frame
It so happens that you enter a house and your eyes are looking for something that would be nice to catch your eye. So, a nice little thing just to cheer up. For example, some kind of welcome or interesting inscription. Well, no one bothers us to make it ourselves. Let’s get started.
What do we need for this? Nothing at all:
· Frame;
· a piece of thick Whatman paper;
· a sheet of white cardboard with dimensions that match the dimensions of the photo frame that you choose for your future inscription;
· colored fabric or paper;
· letter stencil;
· pencil, ruler, paper-knife, scissors, glue.
So, with the help of a stencil, write on paper the inscription that you need. Make sure that it is not too long and subsequently fits into the size of the frame.
Cut out the lettering and glue it to the back of colored fabric or paper. You can just buy adhesive wallpaper with a small pattern and stick the inscription on their sticky side with the letters up.
If you do not have colored paper or suitable material at hand, then the inscription can be made in regular black font by painting the letters with black ink. Cut out each letter separately with a paper knife and attach it to the base-cardboard. Think about how your lettering will look on cardboard and choose the most appropriate placement option.
After that, draw straight lines with a pencil (not pressing hard on the pencil) along the ruler on the cardboard where you will place the letters and carefully glue the inscription with glue. After your inscription dries up, you can safely insert it under the glass of the photo frame and hang it on the wall or place it on the dressing table in the hallway.
Second Idea — Hide Behind a Picture
What are we hiding? You already think of it yourself. It could be a bathroom cabinet, or it could be a pharmacy cabinet in the hallway, or a spice cabinet in the kitchen.
First of all, we need a picture in a frame. It can be old (from your grandmother’s inheritance), or it can be new from the store (recently given to you for your birthday) or written by you. No matter. The main thing is that its dimensions are slightly larger than the door of the cabinet that we will hide behind this picture.
Lay the painting face down, and remove the drawer from the wall, place the door on the painting and align to center it. Mark with a pencil the edges of the cabinet on the back of the frame. Open the cabinet, leaving the door in the picture, and see if the points you marked line up with the thick part of the frame.
Remove the cabinet from the painting and lay it on a hard surface, drill the holes you marked in the corners…
And then, placing it again on the picture, check the alignment of the holes with the dots on the picture frame.
Attach the cabinet door to the picture frame with screws and a screwdriver. Well, now that everything is ready, you can hang your updated locker in its place.
Idea Three — Butterflies
This idea is as simple and light as a butterfly. Buy decorative butterflies and fine wire from the store. We also need superglue, a piece of styrofoam, a piece of black cloth, and a container with a glass flask lid. Maybe you still have a bottle or something else that looks like a flask.
Cover the styrofoam with a black cloth. Cut wire of different lengths in the amount of 10 to 20 pieces (it all depends on the volume of your container and the number of butterflies).
Place a drop of super glue on the tip of the wire before piercing each butterfly with a wire. Gather all the butterflies together, stick them in the Styrofoam and cover with a glass flask. Your Victorian office decor is ready.
